Nine-month Tenure Track Faculty Position, Assistant orAssociate Professor

Nutritional Sciences Department, University of Missouri, Columbia, MO

The University of Missouri invites applications for anine-month, tenure track faculty position in the newly expanded NutritionalSciences Department that now spans three colleges: Medicine, Agriculture, andHuman Environmental Sciences. The successful candidate will help fulfill a newDepartment mission focused on an interdisciplinary approach to investigatingthe obesity epidemic spanning from pipette to patient to population to policy.This position is part of an ongoing effort at MU to hire six new faculty inNutritional Sciences and is funded through the Food for the 21st CenturyNutritional Sciences Cluster, an interdisciplinary group built on a strongtradition of interaction between medical, biological, and agricultural scienceson this campus. Of particular interest are candidates with strength in one ormore of the following areas:

  • Food-basedobesity interventions
  • Nutritionalinterventions using functional foods
  • Microbial-hostinteractions in obesity
Recruitment will be at either the Assistant or AssociateProfessor level. Applicants must have a doctoral degree, postdoctoralexperience, and evidence of outstanding research potential. It is expected thatthe successful candidates will participate in the core functions of theNutritional Sciences Department, establish an internationally recognizedresearch program via both independent and interdisciplinary collaborations,train graduate students, and contribute to the undergraduate instructionalprogram. Successful candidates will be provided with excellent laboratoryspace, generous start-up funds, along with a supplemental annual operatingbudget of $50,000 per year for a minimum of five years. Starting salary will becompetitive and commensurate with experience. Columbia has the residentialadvantages of a major university town: excellent schools and many recreationaland cultural opportunities, as well as easy access to St. Louis and KansasCity.
