A postdoctoral fellowship position is available immediately in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Behavioral Medicine at the University at Buffalo, to work with Dr. James Roemmich. The position will involve participation in the conduct of currently funded (NIH, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation) research on the influence of the built environment on increasing physical activity of overweight children. This collaborative research includes exercise scientists, urban planners, and behavioral psychologists.
The fellow will receive training in grantsmanship and conducting randomized controlled trials, field trials, and human laboratory research in the broad areas of increasing physical activity and pediatric obesity. The fellow will be expected to publish mentored scientific papers and present findings at national research meetings. The Division of Behavioral Medicine offers a productive environment of NIH-supported investigators.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Exercise Science, Nutrition, Public Health, or Psychology and human research experience. Candidates must have excellent communication and writing skills, be self-motivated, and the ability to work independently within a collaborative team. Experience and publications in one or more of the areas of pediatric obesity, physical activity, or the built environment will result in special consideration. The position is for 2 years with the 2nd year based on mutual agreement. The stipend is commensurate with NIH standards based on education and experience.
