Medical Doctor

Weight and Wellness Center, Tufts Medical Center

Boston, MA

Duties include a focus in obesity treatment with a small amount of time devoted to care of nutrition support patients. The Weight and Wellness physician will work closely with the Weight and Wellness team of surgeons, nutritionists, psychologists and other professionals. Primary duties focus on medical evaluation and care of patients in the multidisciplinary Weight and Wellness Center. Candidate is responsible for performing a medical evaluation on each new patient entering the surgical or medical weight loss program at the Weight and Wellness Center. Working closely with the patient’s primary care physician and specialists, the medical doctor would:
               

  • Assess new medical and surgical patients
    • Evaluate causes of obesity or weight gain
    • Identify untreated obesity-related conditions, provide counseling and education about conditions, and recommend treatment
    • Recommend weight loss approaches
  • For surgical patients
    • Oversee pre-operative testing, consultation and risk reduction
    • Provide ongoing follow-up for nutritional and medical issues
  • Oversee and manage medical obesity treatment options
    • Use of approved weight loss medications
    • Medical oversight of very low calorie diet programs
  • Participate in outreach to primary care physicians and the community

The physician will also provide a small amount of time to the care of nutritionally compromised patients, responsibilities include:

  • Inpatient consultations on the Nutrition Support Service
  • Management of outpatients requiring ongoing enteral or parenteral nutrition
