Position AvailablePostdoctoral Associate: Research Molecular BiologistUniversity at California Davis, USDA - ARS Western Human Nutrition Research Center Davis, CA(posted 10/15/2009) Description of Duties: The position is located in the USDA-Agricultural Research Service Western Human Nutrition Research Center at the University of California, Davis. The incumbent will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the Obesity & Metabolism Research Unit, exploring the association between nutrition, obesity, and metabolic disease. Cell and molecular techniques, coupled to implementation of specialized equipment, will be used to provide evidence for the role of a specific genes and diet in adipose development and function, and in particular, to assess how these factors influence the extracellular matrix dynamics. These studies will be placed in a physiological and health context through studies in animal models and using samples derived from relevant human subject populations. Qualification Requirements: Recent Ph.D. in biological sciences, nutrition, or related biological field is required (Ph.D. within last 4 years). Must possess strong molecular and cell biological capabilities, knowledge of common bioinformatics tools, and experience in quantitative techniques (i.e., measurement of analyte concentrations). Experience using animal models and physiological approaches is highly-desirable, as is prior knowledge of methods to measure parameters relevant to tissue extracellular matrix.
