Center for Health Research, Wayne State University,
Detroit, MI 48202
Short Abstract
A 56-year-old woman with bulimia nervosa who
underwent laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding
sought psychotherapy fearing that she
would "sabotage" her surgery. The associations
between eating disorders and bariatric surgical
outcomes are discussed. The case shows that
thwarting the efficacy of laparoscopic adjustable
banding is possible and provides pertinent treatment
recommendations.
