our members and friends, are an integral and vital part

success. Some of NAASO's outstanding moments
during the past year include:
The largest Annual Scientific Meeting in NAASO

organization
Obesity Research published more papers than
ever before
NAASO enjoyed major growth in Membership
Next year will be just as exciting. Our Annual Meeting
will be modeled after 2003 including your suggested
improvements. Approximately 70 nationwide
educational events will be held during the next several
months, with more being planned for 2004. Our
publications will be supplemented with new listserv
forums for special interest groups and Obesity
Research
online already has the ability to present
supplemental
information not available in the print version.
We can't accomplish our goals without you, the nucleus
of our organization. Thank you for your continued
support.

| Call for Nominations - NAASO 2004 Awards Don't Miss the Deadline |

Four awards, each reflecting different characteristics in
the career of obesity researchers, will be presented at
the 2004 Annual Meeting, November 13-17, Las
Vegas.
The four awards include:
TOPS Award Lilly Scientific
Achievement Award Stunkard
Lifetime Achievement Award George Bray
Founders Award
Nominations for each of the awards are now being
accepted. Nominations must be received by
December 31, 2003.

We've been able to reschedule the Annual Meeting
dates to our regular meeting rotation --this will allow
for ease in travel planning and airfare

NAASO comments on current working draft of NIH
Strategic Plan for Obesity Research
In Spring of 2003, the NIH Obesity Research Task Force
was created to spearhead progress in the development
of an NIH-wide strategic plan for obesity research.
Because of NAASO's leadership role in obesity research,
treatment and prevention, NAASO's expertise has been
requested in the strategic planning process. To read

Simopoulos and her busy engagement schedule. Dr.
Simopoulos spoke in Athens, Greece in September and
continued a hectic lecture circuit that included
Washington,
DC, Washington state, Mexico and London.

| Case Study of the Month - Call for Submissions |

This spot is reserved for your Case-
Study of the Month
report. You are invited to send obesity-related unique
and peculiar cases encountered during the treatment of
obesity. This information sharing is expected to
increase the dialogue among the membership and
promote future collaborative projects, leading to the
advancement of knowledge in the field.
SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS
The submission
should not be more than 4000 words, and should
include Abstract (200 words), Introduction, Case
Report, Discussion and References sections. Please
follow Obesity Research style guide for citing
references. In addition, a 50 word summary / short
abstract should be included. This 50 words note will be
published in Obesity - NAASO's newsletter, and will
serve to attract attention of newsletter readers to the
case report, which will be published online in a PDF
format.
Please send your submissions
electronically as a
Microsoft Word document attachment to the Case
Study editor, Dr. Nikhil

Submissions will be
reviewed and the editor's decision will be final.
Accepted case reports will be published online, with
links provided in Obesity, the new online newsletter of
NAASO and on the NAASO website,
www.naaso.org.
