  • NAASO Receives ACCME Accreditation Approval

NAASO has been surveyed by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and awarded accreditation for four years as a provider of medical education for physicians.

ACCME accreditation seeks to assure both physicians and the public that continuing medical education activities provided by NAASO meet the high standards of the Essential Areas, Elements and Policies for Accreditation as specified by the ACCME. Under the direction of Patrick M. O'Neil, PhD, NAASO Education Committee Chair, and Robert Eckrich, NAASO's Director of Education Programs, NAASO is recognized for exemplary compliance in the areas of use of needs assessment for developing CME activities and validation of the effectiveness of CME activities.

Congratulations to NAASO's Education Committee for meeting these rigorous evaluations and providing the obesity community with such effective programs.

    Hot Topic Abstract Submission

NAASO will begin accepting submissions for HOT TOPIC Abstracts on August 22, 2005. The submission deadline is September 14, 2005 at 11:00 pm Eastern Time. Submission Fee: $50.

Hot Topic Abstracts will only be accepted as an MS Word Document attachment. Hot Topics represent late breaking science and are based on data not available prior May 23, 2005. Abstracts are not eligible if the paper has been presented at another national or international meeting or will be published prior to the NAASO Annual Meeting. Authors are not required to be NAASO Members. There is no limit to the number of abstracts an author may submit, however, an author may appear as the lead author on only two abstract submissions.

Abstracts are limited to 2,325 characters (including spaces, name, title, institution, location, body and summary). Figures count as 399 characters.
The standard for acceptance is much higher for Hot Topics than for abstracts submitted prior to May 23. All abstracts are peer-reviewed through a blinded review process. Originality of work, adequacy of data, and clarity of exposition are the determinants in the selection of abstracts. Accepted abstracts will be presented as POSTERS ONLY. Hot Topics will not appear in the September Obesity Research Program Abstract Supplement but may be published at a later date.

Only the corresponding author can withdraw or receive information about the abstract. Please include complete contact information in your email. Expenses associated with the submission and presentation of the abstract are the sole responsibility of the presenter. A letter of notification along with accompanying materials will be sent to the corresponding author by late September.
